Judge Not

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. Colossians 2:16 (NIV)

Believers keep excluding people based on irrelevant practices, such as what they eat or drink, how they celebrate a holiday, or if they wear a tie on Sunday (Colossians 2:16).

Today when I read this verse the phrase "or a Sabbath day" jumped at me. Some keep the Sabbath the traditional way while others observe Sabbath in their own unique ways. Observing the Sabbath on Saturday or Sunday has been a long standing controversy down the centuries. Contenders on both sides have valid points to point out from and without the Bible. However let us remember that Jesus said that 'He is the Lord of the Sabbath' and we are exhorted not to judge with regard to observing the Sabbath day.

For God comes in grace, saying, “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love” (Galatians 5:6 NIV).

Let there be no contention amongst you.
