Modesty in Church

In a recent article of Zion’s Messiah Magazine contributor Tikva Michael wrote, “The goal behind dressing modestly is to help others focus on our character and inner beauty without being distracted by what we wear”. He continued, "“Modesty helps us find the Godly spark in ourselves and in others. The manner in which we dress, speak, and conduct ourselves encourages this process. . .”

Modesty is a trait that is certainly admirable and sits well on christians and non-christains alike. It is more so in our conversations and dressing. I was motivated to speak out on this because of the constant snide remarks one hears as well as my personal observations on the blatant lack of modesty in dressing in our churches -both traditional as well as new generational.

Let me leave you with this verse in 1 Cor 10.23-24 where Paul speaks of a believer's freedom - "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

Shalom
